Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra

The Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO), one of Turkey's most prominent orchestras, has become synonymous with exceptional performances of the classical repertoire as well as contemporary masterpieces. Established in 1999 by the Borusan Culture and Arts Foundation, the orchestra quickly gained acclaim under the baton of its founding Chief Conductor Gürer Aykal. In its pursuit for excellence, the orchestra has collaborated with numerous revered musicians and has been privileged to have Sascha Goetzel as its Artistic Director and Principal Conductor between 2009 and 2019.

Based at the Lütfi Kırdar Concert Hall in Istanbul, the BIPO is celebrated for its rich and varied programming, which often includes works by great Romantic composers as evidenced by its recent recordings of Richard Wagner's and Richard Strauss's works, showcasing their ability to navigate the demanding scores with skill and emotional depth. With a repertoire that extends from opera scenes and orchestral songs by these composers to spectacular symphonic pieces and overtures of the Italian opera tradition, the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra has positioned itself as a leading interpreter of the European classical music tradition, aiding in the cultural enrichment of Istanbul and beyond.
