Blackalicious

Blackalicious is an American hip-hop duo from Sacramento, California, formed in 1992 by rapper Gift of Gab (born Timothy Jerome Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley). They are known for their intricate lyricism, classic beats, and the ability to interweave socially conscious themes with laid-back, soulful vibes. Their music is characterized by Gift of Gab's multifaceted and complex rapping technique and Chief Xcel's adept craftsmanship in creating rich and dynamic beats.

Their journey began with the 1994 EP "Melodica," which initially put them on the map in underground hip-hop circles. Blackalicious' reputation for blending meaningful messages with profound lyrical skill was solidified with their first full-length album, "Nia," in 1999, and the momentum continued with their critically acclaimed albums "Blazing Arrow" in 2002 and "The Craft" in 2005. The group took an extended hiatus after "The Craft," but fans welcomed their return with the release of "Imani Vol. 1" in 2015. A tribute to their staying power and innovation, the album maintained their signature sound while also exploring new directions. Despite the untimely passing of Gift of Gab in 2021, Blackalicious leaves a lasting legacy in the world of conscious hip-hop, remembered for their lyrical prowess and their commitment to artistry.
