Hiatus Kaiyote

Hiatus Kaiyote is an Australian neo-soul quartet known for its eclectic and innovative sound that seamlessly blends elements of soul, funk, jazz, and electronic music. Formed in Melbourne in 2011, the band consists of vocalist/guitarist Nai Palm (Naomi Saalfield), bassist Paul Bender, drummer Perrin Moss, and keyboardist Simon Mavin. Their distinctive music is often characterized by complex rhythms, unusual time signatures, and a futuristic approach to traditional musical genres.

The band debuted with their album "Tawk Tomahawk" in 2012, which caught the attention of renowned artists like Questlove and Erykah Badu, as well as snagging a Grammy nomination for their collaboration with Q-Tip. Hiatus Kaiyote's follow-up, "Choose Your Weapon," released in 2015, expanded their horizons and garnered global acclaim for its adventurous sonic landscape. After a hiatus and the lead singer's battle with breast cancer, they made a triumphant return with "Mood Valiant" in 2021, an album that further solidified their reputation for boundary-pushing music suffused with vibrant, global influences. Alongside their full-length releases, Hiatus Kaiyote has also put out a variety of singles, remixes, and EPs such as "Recalibrations, Vol. 1," and "Mood Variant (The Remixes)," showcasing their ability to reinterpret their unique soundscapes through different sonic lenses. Their growing discography reflects the band's continuous evolution and their commitment to pushing the limits of genre and creativity in contemporary music.
