Cemetary

Cemetary is a Swedish gothic metal band that was originally formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Mathias Lodmalm. As one of the early bands to emerge in the Scandinavian heavy metal scene with a gothic twist, Cemetary's sound was marked by its somber melodies, atmospheric moods, and a blend of harsh and melancholic vocals. Their musical journey chronicles the evolution from their death metal roots into a more gothic and doom-oriented aesthetic.

The band's discography showcases a transformative progression, with the earliest work "An Evil Shade of Grey," released in 1992, featuring a death metal framework. As they moved forward, albums like "Godless Beauty" (1993) and "Black Vanity" (1994) saw them incorporating more gothic elements. With "Sundown" (1996), the band veered further into gothic metal, emphasizing dark, emotive soundscapes that resonated with fans of the genre. Their later releases, "Last Confessions" (1997) and "Sweetest Tragedies" (1998), solidified their place within the gothic metal niche before the band members went their separate ways. Their final studio album "Phantasma" (2005) was a posthumous collection of previous unreleased material, offering fans one last taste of Cemetary’s unique blend of shadow and sound. Cemetary's influence can be felt in the realm of gothic metal as they paved the way for a host of bands seeking to merge the aesthetics of goth with the power of metal.
