Born on July 30, 1936, in Odessa, USSR, Falik grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from an early age. His father, Alexander Efimovich Falik, played percussion in the Odessa Opera orchestra, and his mother, Yevgenia Mikhailovna, worked at the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theatre. Falik's musical journey began with studying cello and later composition at the Leningrad Conservatory. He became a prominent figure in Russian music, known for his chamber and orchestral works, including string quartets and concertos. Falik was also a respected educator, serving as a professor of composition and instrumentation at the Leningrad Conservatory.

Throughout his career, Falik composed a variety of works, including ballets and symphonic pieces. His compositions often reflected a blend of classical and modern influences, showcasing his unique style. Falik's contributions to music were recognized with the title of People's Artist of Russia. He passed away on January 23, 2009, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His legacy continues through his compositions, which remain celebrated for their depth and musicality.
