Orquesta Riverside

Orquesta Riverside, also known simply as La Riverside, is an iconic Cuban band that has remained a significant figure in the Latin music scene for several decades, renowned for its contribution to the development and popularization of Cuban music, particularly the Afro-Cuban sound. The orchestra was founded in 1938 by local musician Enrique González Mantici in Havana. Over the years, the ensemble became one of the most popular orchestras in Cuba, during the golden era of Cuban music, which spanned from the 1940s to the 1960s. Their sound was characterized by a rich, brassy harmony embellished with swinging Afro-Cuban rhythms, which made them a staple at dance halls and a favorite among fans of the mambo and cha-cha-cha.

Throughout its storied history, Orquesta Riverside has gone through various incarnations and leadership changes, always managing to maintain its relevance and connection to the Cuban musical tradition. Their extensive repertoire, which includes both original compositions and interpretations of Cuban classics, reflects the cultural richness of the island and has been brought to newer audiences through a series of remastered releases. Albums such as "¡Bailemos!", "Alma Con Alma," and "Daiquiri" showcase their talent for crafting infectious tunes that make it impossible not to dance. The orchestra's enduring legacy is a testament to their quality and their role in bringing the joyous and vibrant sounds of salsa and Afro-Cuban music to the world.
