Mitch Leigh

Mitch Leigh was an American musical theatre composer best known for writing the music for the legendary Broadway musical Man of La Mancha. Premiering in 1965, the show became a massive success, with its most iconic number, "The Impossible Dream," becoming a standard in musical theatre and pop culture. Originally trained in jazz and classical music, Leigh brought a unique compositional voice to Broadway, blending dramatic flair with memorable melodies.

Beyond Man of La Mancha, Leigh also composed music for other musicals such as Chu Chem and Saravà, though none achieved the same level of acclaim. In addition to his work in theatre, he was a successful jingle writer and music producer. Leigh’s contributions to American musical theatre earned him a Tony Award and a lasting legacy as the man who gave musical voice to Cervantes’ timeless story of Don Quixote.
