Osaka Monaurail is a Japanese funk band formed in Osaka, Japan, in 1992. Originally a 20-piece big-band funk outfit, the group is heavily influenced by James Brown and jazz, drawing inspiration from classic funk tracks like the J.B.'s' "(It's Not the Express) It's the J.B.'s Monaurail," which they are named after. Over the years, Osaka Monaurail has evolved and is now based in Tokyo. The band's current lineup includes Ryo Nakata on vocals and keyboards, Kentaro Yamagata and Taihei Awaji on trumpet, Shimon Mukai on tenor saxophone, Dan Hayami and Yuichi Ikeda on guitar, Tsuyoshi Ouchi on bass, and Soki Kimura on drums.
Osaka Monaurail has released several albums, including *What It Is – What It Was*, *Rumble'n Struggle*, *Thankful*, and *State of the World*, showcasing their energetic and soulful funk sound. They have also collaborated with notable artists like Marva Whitney, producing her album *I Am What I Am* in 2006. Their music often features a blend of classic funk elements with modern flair, making them a standout in the contemporary funk scene.
