The Iveys

The Iveys were a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea in 1961, originally starting out as the Panthers before settling on the name The Iveys in 1964. The classic lineup included Pete Ham, Mike Gibbins, Ron Griffiths, and Dai Jenkins, with Mike Gibbins joining in 1965. They built a strong reputation as a live act, playing gigs around the UK and even opening for big names like The Who and The Yardbirds. In 1968, they became the first non-Beatle group signed to Apple Records, thanks to the support of Beatles roadie Mal Evans. Their only official album under the name The Iveys, *Maybe Tomorrow*, was released in 1969, but most of its best tracks were later re-recorded for Badfinger’s debut album after the band changed their name in 1970. The Iveys are best remembered as the early incarnation of Badfinger, a band that would go on to become power pop legends.
