Gunnar Geisse

Gunnar Geisse is a German musician, improviser, and composer born in 1962 in Gießen. He plays a variety of string instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin, and some Central Asian instruments like the Uzbek and Persian dotâr. Starting out as a rock guitarist, he shifted toward jazz and then experimental and improvised music after being inspired by an Ornette Coleman concert early in his career. Geisse has been based in Munich since 1985 and is known for his avant-garde approach, blending improvisation with different musical styles over a diverse career that includes working with the band "Brother Virus" and various solo projects.

Despite a serious accident in 1992 that took two fingers on his right hand, Geisse has continued to innovate, incorporating technology such as MIDI guitar into his sound. His recent albums include *Schoeck vs. Bauer or What Futures Are You Longing For?* (2025) and *Triptych* (2021), which showcase his experimental and contemporary classical music interests. He also engages in solo performances combining guitar and electronic elements, maintaining a strong presence in the creative music scene.
