Kristoffer Kompen

Kristoffer Kompen is a Norwegian jazz trombonist and composer born on August 14, 1984, in Oslo. He has made a name for himself in the Norwegian jazz scene through his work with various bands such as Jazzin' Babies, Staffan William-Olsson Sextet, and Kåre Nymark Band, as well as leading his own groups like the Kompen Quintet and the Swedish-Norwegian Union Rhythm Kings. His music blends traditional jazz influences with contemporary expressions, and he has released notable albums including *Short Stories of Happiness* (2011) and *A Tribute to Jack Teagarden* (2013), which honors the legendary jazz trombonist Jack Teagarden. Kompen studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and other institutions, developing a refined style and compositional voice that has earned him respect in the jazz community.

In addition to performing and recording, Kompen has been commissioned for new works, such as his 2024 project "Upstream," which explores early American marching band music mixed with folk and blues traditions.
