Born in 1943, Ikebe studied composition at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His works often incorporate elements of traditional Japanese music, Western classical music, and electronic music, creating a unique and captivating sound. Ikebe has composed for a wide range of ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and soloists. He has also written music for film and television, including the soundtrack for the 2007 film "Nobuhiro Suwa: A Letter from the Mountain."
