Psychofagist

Psychofagist is an Italian avant-garde grindcore band formed in 2002 in Novara, Italy. Their music style is a unique blend of grindcore, noise music, technical death metal, punk jazz, and free improvisation. The band's name is derived from the Greek word "psykho-" meaning "mind, mental" and the Latin suffix "-phagus" or "-fagus" meaning "to eat." Over the years, Psychofagist released several albums and EPs, including their debut self-titled album in 2004, *Il Secondo Tragico* in 2009, and *Songs of Faint and Distortion* in 2013. They also participated in various split releases, such as *Selfless Spite* with Hybrid Viscery and *The Optician* EP. The band members went on to form other projects after Psychofagist disbanded in 2013.

Psychofagist was known for their energetic live performances, having played about 140 shows and sharing stages with notable bands like Brutal Truth, Zu, and Misery Index. Despite their disbandment, their legacy continues to influence the experimental metal scene.
