Stone Sour is an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992. The group was founded by vocalist Corey Taylor, who is also well-known as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Slipknot, and drummer Joel Ekman. The band's name is derived from a cocktail that features one part whiskey to one part orange juice with a splash of sour mix. Their sound blends heavy metal, hard rock, and post-grunge, delivering it with both intensity and melodic strength. Stone Sour went on hiatus in 1997 when Taylor joined Slipknot, but the band reformed in 2002 and released a self-titled debut album which became a major success due to the hit single "Bother" featured on the Spider-Man soundtrack.
Over the years, Stone Sour has undergone several lineup changes, with Taylor remaining as the consistent driving force of their powerful and emotionally resonate sound. The band gained further prominence with albums like 'Come What(ever) May' (2006), 'Audio Secrecy' (2010), and the ambitious concept double album 'House of Gold & Bones – Part 1 and 2' (2012 and 2013). Their sixth studio album, "Hydrograd," released in 2017, showcased a more versatile variant of their established sound with tracks that ventured into alternative and hard rock territories. It was followed by a string of EPs featuring both original material and covers that paid homage to their rock influences. Their live performances, such as the one captured in "Hello, You Bastards: Live in Reno," demonstrate the band's raw energy and charisma on stage, continuing to cement Stone Sour's reputation as a staple in the rock and metal communities.
