The Summer State

**The Summer State** is a Nashville-based indie pop/rock outfit known for their sun-soaked melodies and sharp lyricism. Formed in 2019 around singer-guitarist Jake Lussier, the band—rounded out by guitarist Alex McHugh, bassist Ben Murphy, and drummer Chris Baker—quickly carved out a space in the modern alt-pop scene with their self-released 2020 debut EP. Tracks like “Gone” and “Enough” showcase their knack for pairing introspective lyrics about love and restlessness with shimmering guitar hooks and synth textures, drawing comparisons to acts like The 1975 and Walk the Moon.

Fresh off festival slots at Bonnaroo and support tours, The Summer State doubled down in 2023 with their punchy singles “Gone” and “Enough,” teasing their sophomore EP. Their music balances in-the-moment urgency with nostalgic warmth, landing them sync placements and a growing Spotify audience. Whether they’re soundtracking late-night drives or festival singalongs, the band keeps their indie roots front and center while chasing bigger, brighter alt-pop horizons.
