Abelardo Vásquez was a renowned Peruvian singer, composer, and percussionist, born on January 2, 1929, in Lima, Peru. He was the son of the legendary Afro-Peruvian musician Porfirio Vásquez. Abelardo Vásquez played a significant role in promoting Peruvian criolla music, collaborating with notable figures like Nicomedes Santa Cruz. He was part of several musical groups, including the Compañía Negra "Pancho Fierro" and "Cumanana." His career also included performances in international venues, such as Japan and Germany, showcasing his talent and dedication to his cultural heritage. In 1984, he founded the Peña “Don Porfirio” in Barranco, Lima, in honor of his father.
