The Five Americans

The Five Americans were a 1960s rock band best known for their 1967 hit "Western Union," which climbed into the Top Ten of the Billboard charts. The group originally formed in Durant, Oklahoma, as The Mutineers, before relocating to Dallas, Texas, and changing their name. Their sound combined catchy pop hooks with garage rock energy, often featuring distinctive Vox organ riffs that became a hallmark of their music.

The band released several albums during their active years, including I See the Light (1966) and Progressions (1967), and they enjoyed a string of regional and national hits throughout the mid-to-late '60s.
