Punk Lurex

Punk Lurex is a Finnish band formed in Tampere in 1993. The group's music is influenced by punk, reggae, and folk, featuring predominantly Finnish lyrics and a prominent female vocal presence. The original lineup included Tiina Wesslin on bass and vocals, Riitta Suojanen on guitar, Juha Helminen on guitar, and Jyrki Siukonen on drums. Helminen and Siukonen were former members of the legendary Finnish punk band Kollaa Kestää. Over the years, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with notable collaborations, including a co-EP with TV Smith of The Adverts. Punk Lurex has released several albums and EPs, often through Finnish and German labels like Hiljaiset Levyt and Teenage Rebel Records.

The band's history includes a hiatus from 2003 to 2008, after which they resumed activity with a slightly different lineup. Their music often reflects a blend of energetic punk rhythms with melodic elements, showcasing their unique sound within the Finnish music scene. Despite the changes over the years, Punk Lurex has maintained a loyal following and continues to contribute to the vibrant Finnish punk landscape.
