The Slow Death is a Minneapolis-based punk rock band led by Jesse "Pretty Boy" Thorson, active since 2009 with an ever-evolving lineup that’s seen around 69 members over the years. Originally named as a dark joke reflecting Jesse’s struggles with substance abuse, the band has grown into a resilient project known for its raw honesty, smart hooks, and a sound that blends desperation with defiance. Their music captures working-class anger and humility through melodic, driving, mid-tempo punk rock that resonates with anyone feeling like an outsider in tough times.
The Slow Death’s latest album, *No Light to See* (2025), is hailed as their most artistically sweeping and impressive work, featuring soaring guitar leads, powerful drumming, and emotionally charged lyrics. Jesse formed the band with the intention of creating something that would never break up or stop touring, and they continue to tour extensively across the US, UK, Canada, Japan, and beyond. The band’s evolving lineup has included notable musicians from the Midwest punk scene, and their work is released through their own label Don’t Sing Records, co-run by Jesse and his wife Annie Sparrows from The Soviettes.
