Theo Plath

Theo Plath is a renowned German bassoonist known for his exceptional skill and versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral artist. He has been the principal bassoonist of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony since 2019, formerly holding the same position with the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. Plath has won several prestigious awards, including prizes at the Aelous International Competition for Wind Instruments, the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.

Plath's musical education was influenced by notable figures such as Sergio Azzolini, Klaus Thunemann, and Dag Jensen, with whom he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. His discography includes acclaimed albums like "Weber, Bitsch, Jolivet & Crusell: Bassoon Concertos," "Lost Times," and "Balkan Discoveries," showcasing his mastery of diverse repertoire. He is also a member of the Monet Wind Quintet and regularly participates in educational outreach programs like "Rhapsody in School," sharing his passion for classical music with young audiences. As of 2024, Theo Plath has been appointed as a Professor of Bassoon at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt.
