Trio Mediæval

Trio Mediæval is an innovative vocal ensemble that has captured the attention and admiration of music enthusiasts around the world. Formed in Oslo in 1997, the group consists of three classically trained singers, Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth, and Jorunn Lovise Husan (who replaced Torunn Østrem Ossum). The trio's repertoire seamlessly blends medieval music with contemporary compositions, Norwegian folk songs, and improvisational elements, creating a distinctive and ethereal sound that transcends typical genre boundaries.

Over the years, Trio Mediæval has carved out a unique niche within the world of vocal music through their thoughtful interpretations and collaborations with leading composers and musicians. Their discography showcases an evocative mix of traditional and modern pieces, exemplified in albums like "Aquilonis", which explores a wide range of repertoire, from Scandinavian folk tunes to medieval polyphony. With a focus on the spiritual and contemplative nature of music, they have brought to life works such as David Lang's "alleluia amen — meditation remix" and Julia Wolfe's "Steel Hammer", revealing a deep commitment to exploring the complex textures and harmonies that the human voice can produce. Trio Mediæval continues to enchant audiences both in the recording studio and on international stages, contributing to the evolving dialogue between ancient music traditions and contemporary artistic expression.
