Cordel do Fogo Encantado is a Brazilian band deeply rooted in the traditions of Brazilian folklore, yet innovative in its presentation and fusion of styles. Hailing from the northeastern state of Pernambuco, the group was formed in 1999 by poet and performer Lirinha (José Paes de Lira) along with Clayton Barros, Emerson Calado, Nego Henrique, and Rafa Almeida. Their name, which translates as "The Enchanted Fire Cordel," is a nod to the popular "cordel literature," a form of rhymed storytelling in leaflets, and symbolizes the band's commitment to perpetuating the rich narrative traditions of the Brazilian northeast while incorporating contemporary musical influences.
Throughout its career, Cordel do Fogo Encantado has created a powerful blend of music and theater, drawing on elements of regional folk music, rock, and performance art to create a unique stage presence and sound. The group initially disbanded in 2010 but reunited in 2015, much to the delight of fans. Following their reunion, they have continued to produce music that is both contemplative and invigorating, exploring themes of identity, culture, and freedom. Their recent releases, such as "Viagem ao Coração do Sol" and "Liberdade, A Filha do Vento," showcase their ongoing maturation and resonating artistry, further establishing Cordel do Fogo Encantado as an innovative and influential force within the Brazilian music scene.
