Alan Bush was an English composer known for his commitment to social justice and his use of folk melodies in his music. Born in London in 1900, Bush studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later became a professor of composition there. He was a prolific composer, writing symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and operas. His music is often characterized by its strong rhythmic drive, melodic lyricism, and use of dissonance. Bush was also a political activist, and his music often reflected his socialist beliefs. He died in London in 1995.
