Norma Bruni

Norma Bruni, born Norma Mistroni on August 20, 1913, in Bologna, Italy, was a beloved Italian singer whose warm contralto voice made her one of the most recognized radio voices of the early 1940s. She had a remarkably serendipitous start to her career—discovered while singing casually as a housemaid, she quickly rose to fame after participating in the EIAR "new talents" competition in 1939. Under the guidance of well-known maestros like Pippo Barzizza and Sergio Ala, Bruni recorded hit songs for Parlophon and Cetra labels, with her most famous track being "Silenzioso slow (Abbassa la tua radio)." She became especially cherished by Italian soldiers during World War II, performing concerts for wounded troops and captivating audiences nationwide. Her career, though relatively brief from 1939 to around 1942, left a lasting mark on Italian popular music of the era.

Norma Bruni passed away in Milan on January 3, 1971. Beyond her singing, she was also known for a brief stint as an actress. Today, her recordings continue to be celebrated for their nostalgic charm and historic significance in Italian radio music.
