New Grass Revival

New Grass Revival was an influential progressive bluegrass band formed in 1971, acclaimed for their innovative fusion of bluegrass with jazz, rock, and country elements. The band consisted of notable musicians, including Sam Bush (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and vocals), John Cowan (bass guitar and vocals), Courtney Johnson (banjo and vocals), and Curtis Burch (dobro, guitar and vocals). Later, Béla Fleck and Pat Flynn would join the ensemble, cementing the group's footprint in the progressive acoustic music world.

Throughout their prolific career, New Grass Revival pushed the boundaries of traditional bluegrass, earning a reputation for their exceptional musicality and genre-bending approach. They released several important albums like "When The Storm Is Over / Fly Through The Country," which showcased their capacity to artfully blend instrumental virtuosity with a contemporary edge. Albums such as "On The Boulevard," and "Live" captured the raw, dynamic energy of their performances. "Deviation" and "Commonwealth" further exemplified their talent in coupling traditional sounds with new stylistic forms. Playing at venues like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where they recorded "Too Late To Turn Back Now (Live At The 4th Annual Telluride Bluegrass And Country Festival, Telluride, CO / June 25-26, 1977)," the New Grass Revival ingrained themselves into the fabric of American roots music. Their legacy remains a cornerstone of the progressive movement within bluegrass, influencing countless musicians and enlivening the genre with a spirit of innovation and exploration.
