Bingo Gazingo

Bingo Gazingo was a cult poet and performance artist from New York City, known for his eccentric, high-energy spoken word performances that often blended absurdist humor, surreal storytelling, and pop culture references. Born Murray Wachs in 1924, he became a beloved figure in the outsider music scene, frequently performing his wild, stream-of-consciousness rants over chaotic backing tracks. His work found a home on WFMU, the freeform radio station that championed his unique style and helped introduce him to a wider audience.

Despite only gaining broader attention later in life, Bingo Gazingo’s passionate delivery and wild, unfiltered creativity earned him a dedicated following. He released a self-titled album in the 1990s featuring tracks like “I Love You So F---ing Much I Can’t S---" and performed alongside other avant-garde artists such as R. Stevie Moore. He remained an active performer up until his death in 2010, often appearing at open mic nights and alternative music events around NYC. His legacy lives on as a cherished icon of DIY artistry and outsider expression.
