Jorge Arriagada was a French-Chilean film composer who made a significant impact in the world of cinema music. Born in 1943 in Santiago, Chile, Arriagada later moved to France where he spent much of his career. He was best known for his long-standing collaboration with Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz, composing music for dozens of Ruiz's films over the years.
Arriagada's work wasn't limited to just one director, though. He composed soundtracks for numerous other filmmakers, including Barbet Schroeder and Jean-Pierre Mocky. His versatility as a composer is evident in the wide range of projects he took on, from creating music for films to composing pieces for exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou. Arriagada's contributions to film music were significant, and he was notably the first composer to create a musical interpretation of Proust's imaginary "Sonate de Vinteuil" for a film adaptation.
