Born on May 30, 1944 (or possibly 1949), in Portland, Jamaica, Thomas began his career working as a laborer alongside future members of The Gladiators. His music career took off with hits like "Run Mr. Nigel Run" and "Love of the Common People," which reached the UK Top Ten in 1970. This success led to a European tour and his decision to stay in the UK. Thomas collaborated with notable producers such as Joe Gibbs and Dandy Livingstone, releasing albums like "Love of the Common People" and "Tell It Like It Is." His music often featured covers of popular R&B hits, showcasing his versatile voice.
Thomas's career continued through the 1970s and into the early 1980s, with a shift towards roots reggae. He toured the UK several times, including a tour backed by Misty in Roots in 1974. Despite his talent and early success, Thomas's life ended tragically around 1990. His legacy remains significant in the reggae genre, with "Love of the Common People" being one of his most enduring songs.
