Meklit

Meklit is an Ethiopian-American singer, songwriter, and composer known for blending jazz, soul, and East African musical traditions into a vibrant and deeply personal sound. Raised in the U.S. with roots in Addis Ababa, Meklit emerged as a prominent voice in the Bay Area arts scene and quickly gained attention for her rich vocals, socially conscious lyrics, and genre-blurring compositions. She’s also a TED Senior Fellow and co-founder of the Nile Project, which brings together musicians from countries along the Nile River to foster dialogue and musical collaboration.

Meklit's music is a celebration of cultural hybridity, often incorporating traditional Ethiopian rhythms and scales with elements of American jazz and funk. Her releases, such as “You Got Me” and “A Piece of Infinity,” reflect her innovative approach and deep commitment to storytelling through sound.
