Myrkgrav is a one-man folk metal project founded by Lars Jensen in Jevnaker, Oppland, Norway in 2003. The project is heavily inspired by Scandinavian history, folklore, and landscapes, seamlessly blending traditional folk melodies and instruments with the aggressive undertones of black metal. Myrkgrav's music is characterized by its use of the Norwegian language, thematic focus on rural life, and a deep appreciation for nature, which is conveyed through the rich storytelling present in the lyrics.
Myrkgrav gained attention in the folk metal scene with the debut album "Trollskau, Skrømt og Kølabrenning", released in 2006. The album showcased a mix of vibrant folk rhythms and fierce metal elements, capturing the essence of Nordic heritage. After a period of inactivity, Myrkgrav returned with a series of releases, such as the single "Sjuguttmyra" in 2013, which continued to exhibit Jensen's commitment to his musical and cultural roots. The project's most recent contribution to its discography, "Takk og farvel; tida er blitt ei annen" in 2016, was marked as a farewell release that served as an emphatic close to the Myrkgrav chapter, containing re-recordings of older material and new songs, encapsulating the spirit and progression of Myrkgrav's music. "Vonde Auer", another noteworthy single, remains a testament to the raw, emotive power of Jensen's songwriting and musical prowess within the folk metal genre.
