Vials of Wrath is a unique project within the metal scene, primarily known for combining elements of black metal with ambient music and lyrics exploring themes of nature, spirituality, and personal struggle. The mastermind behind Vials of Wrath is Dempsey "DC" Mills, who hails from the southeastern United States. What sets this project apart is its solitary nature; Mills is a solo musician, performing all instruments and vocals, which lends an introspective and personal feel to the music. Vials of Wrath came into being in 2011, after Mills departed from another band, Bloodline Severed, seeking a more individual and expressive outlet for his musicianship.

The journey of Vials of Wrath is marked by a series of introspective releases that evoke a wide array of emotions and atmospheric landscapes. The project's debut full-length album "Days Without Names" (2015) garnered attention for its emotive blend of aggressive black metal and serene ambient passages. This was followed by the thematically rich "Seeking Refuge" (2018), a reflection on peace and solace found in nature. The auditory exploration continued with "Ataraxia" (2020), and subsequently "Dark Winter Memories" (2020), which delved into the more melancholic and reflective realms of the human psyche. The latest offerings, "Ataraxia 1 & 2" (2022), showcase a further maturation in songwriting and are emblematic of Mills’s ability to conjure vivid sonic landscapes, whilst maintaining an undercurrent of raw, unfiltered emotion that is both haunting and deeply personal.
