Silvana Armenulic

Silvana Armenulić, born as Zilha Barjaktarević on May 18, 1939, in Doboj, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was a prominent figure in the genre of Yugoslav folk music who left an indelible mark before her tragedy-stricken death in 1976. Her soulful voice and emotive performances earned her an enduring legacy within the Balkan music scene. She began her career in the late 1950s and rose to fame in the subsequent decade with a series of hit songs that resonated deeply with her audience, often exploring themes of love, heartache, and the beauty of her homeland.

Her recordings, which include albums like "Singl Ploče" and "Silvana Armenulić," as well as songs like "Bez tebe mi život pust i prazan," showcase her ability to imbue traditional folk melodies with a contemporary and personal touch. Silvana's music continues to be celebrated posthumously, encapsulated by collections such as "Folk Zvijezde Zauvijek," which highlight her standing as an evergreen star of the folk genre. Her untimely death in a car accident alongside her sister, fellow singer Mirjana Bajraktarević, has only amplified her legendary status within the pantheon of Yugoslav and Balkan music artists.
