Alexej Gerassimez is a German percussionist born in Essen in 1987, known for his incredible versatility and energetic performances that span classical, jazz, minimal, and new music genres. He is celebrated as both a virtuoso soloist and a creative force on stage, regularly collaborating with renowned orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Konzerthausorchester Berlin. Gerassimez also works with a host of acclaimed musicians, including pianists Arthur and Lucas Jussen, jazz pianist Omer Klein, and the SIGNUM saxophone quartet, and is the composer and performer behind recent releases like “Starry Night” and “Piazonore”.
Beyond his solo career, Gerassimez is also a dedicated chamber musician, educator, and arranger—currently serving as Professor of Percussion at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich—and has premiered major new works by composers like John Psathas, Kalevi Aho, and Malika Kishino. His recordings and concert programs, such as “Flow of Music,” “Chameleon,” and “Eravie,” have received international acclaim, further cementing his reputation as one of the world’s leading percussionists of his generation.
