Cornell Dupree was a legendary American guitarist known for his smooth, soulful style and prolific session work. Born in 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas, Dupree became one of the most in-demand guitarists in R&B, soul, and jazz, contributing to over 2,500 recordings. He played with a who's who of iconic artists, including Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, King Curtis, and Joe Cocker. His tasteful, blues-infused licks and rhythmic sensibility made him a favorite among producers and fellow musicians alike.
Dupree was also a founding member of the jazz-funk supergroup Stuff, alongside other top-tier session players like Richard Tee and Steve Gadd. In addition to his session work, Dupree released several solo albums showcasing his signature groove and laid-back charm. Whether laying down a smooth rhythm line or taking a melodic solo, his playing always carried warmth and soul. Dupree passed away in 2011, but his work continues to influence generations of guitarists and music lovers around the world.
