Witherscape

Witherscape is a progressive death metal project fronted by Swedish multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö, best known for his influential work in bands like Edge of Sanity and Nightingale. Formed in 2013, Witherscape sees Swanö teaming up with keyboardist and drummer Ragnar Widerberg to create a cinematic blend of melodic death metal, traditional heavy metal, and symphonic rock. Their sound is marked by sweeping arrangements, lush keyboards, and Swanö’s distinctive blend of clean and harsh vocals.

The band debuted with the concept album The Inheritance in 2013, telling a gothic tale set in 19th-century Sweden, and followed it up with the EP The New Tomorrow in 2014 and the full-length album The Northern Sanctuary in 2016. Witherscape is known for fusing vintage prog rock influences with modern metal production, offering a unique and atmospheric take on extreme metal that’s both heavy and emotionally rich.
