Riccardo Chailly

Riccardo Chailly is an internationally acclaimed Italian conductor, renowned for his interpretations of the operatic and symphonic repertoire. Born in Milan on February 20, 1953, into a musical family, Chailly swiftly rose to prominence in the classical music world. After completing his studies at the music conservatories in Milan and Perugia and refining his craft under Franco Ferrara in Siena, he began his career as an assistant conductor at La Scala in Milan. His talent soon propelled him to lead some of the world's most prestigious orchestras.

Throughout his illustrious career, Chailly has served as the principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and as the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, a position he held with great distinction from 2005 until 2016. In 2015, he took the reins of the prestigious Teatro alla Scala as its musical director, bringing his deep appreciation and understanding of Italian opera to the fore. Chailly's discography reflects his broad musical interests and interpretive depth, spanning from the Romantic core to 20th-century composers. Some of his most recent releases include critical performances of Bruckner's symphonies, insightful interpretations of Verdi's operatic choruses and scenes, as well as engaging renditions of works by Mozart and Mendelssohn. With "Amata dalle tenebre" and "Musa Italiana", Chailly continues to explore and showcase the richness of the Italian musical tradition, affirming his status as one of the preeminent conductors of our time.
