Edmundo Villani-Côrtes was a Brazilian composer, conductor, and music educator. Born in 1880, he studied music in Rio de Janeiro and Paris, and became known for his compositions that blended Brazilian folk music with classical forms. Villani-Côrtes was a prolific composer, writing over 200 works, including operas, symphonies, and chamber music. He also served as the director of the Brazilian Conservatory of Music and the National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil. Villani-Côrtes died in 1970, but his music continues to be performed and enjoyed today.
