Big Black Boots

Big Black Boots is a long-running Russian hip-hop group out of Moscow that first formed back in 1996. The group’s lineup has shifted over the years, but its core and creative drive have always revolved around leader Evgeny “Dzhii Vilks” Zhukov. Big Black Boots made a significant impact on the local scene with four full-length albums—three of which were singled out by Rap.Ru among the most important in Russian rap history—and a handful of standout singles. Their track “Если знаешь, как жить” is considered a signature song, but “Моя улица” really put them on the map, especially after its music video release. The group took a hiatus but returned for reunions in 2011 and again in 2019, maintaining a dedicated fanbase well into the 2020s.

Known for evolving with the times and consistently delivering sharp, authentic lyrics, Big Black Boots blends classic hip-hop sensibilities with personal storytelling. The members may change, but their commitment to pushing boundaries within Russian rap never does. Even now, new music from Dzhii Vilks as a solo artist keeps the legacy alive, with singles, remastered tracks, and fresh projects continuing to flow.
