Apocalyptica

Apocalyptica is an innovative Finnish group that has masterfully bridged the gap between rock and classical music since the mid-1990s. The band originated as a Metallica classical tribute act, formed by classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso (who replaced Antero Manninen), and drummer Mikko Sirén who joined in later years to add a new dimension to their sound. They made their debut with the groundbreaking album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" in 1996, which laid the foundation for their genre-defying style.

The quartet is known for their electrifying instrumental performances that uniquely combine the intensity of heavy metal with the depth and emotion of cello-driven classical arrangements. Apocalyptica has continuously evolved, working with various vocalists and expanding their repertoire to include original compositions alongside their classical and metal covers. As their recent releases such as "Live in Helsinki St. John's Church" and "Rise Again" demonstrate, Apocalyptica remains a dynamic force in the music world, consistently pushing the boundaries of their craft and captivating audiences with their extraordinary musical prowess and creativity.
