Apocalyptica is an innovative Finnish group that has masterfully bridged the gap between rock and classical music since the mid-1990s. The band originated as a Metallica classical tribute act, formed by classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso (who replaced Antero Manninen), and drummer Mikko Sirén who joined in later years to add a new dimension to their sound. They made their debut with the groundbreaking album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" in 1996, which laid the foundation for their genre-defying style.

The quartet is known for their electrifying instrumental performances that uniquely combine the intensity of heavy metal with the depth and emotion of cello-driven classical arrangements. Apocalyptica has continuously evolved, working with various vocalists and expanding their repertoire to include original compositions alongside their classical and metal covers.
