Maarten Ornstein

Maarten Ornstein is a Dutch musician and composer based in Amsterdam, widely recognized for his adventurous spirit and genre-defying approach to music. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, playing tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, and occasionally tárogató, electric saxophone, drum machine, and laptop. Ornstein thrives on exploring and blending styles, from jazz and funk to classical Arabic and baroque, always pushing boundaries and collaborating with a diverse range of artists. His music is distinctive for its explosive virtuosity and strong lyrical sense, with each performance and composition reflecting a unique voice that’s instantly recognizable.

Beyond his solo work, he leads the innovative trio DASH!, which has released several albums celebrated for their minimalistic, hypnotic sound and energetic live performances. Ornstein is a member of Splendor Amsterdam, a vibrant collective music venue, and is known for projects that bring together different musical worlds and challenge listeners to hear music in new ways. His commitment to experimentation and collaboration has made him a vital force in the contemporary Dutch music scene.
