Christiane Behn is a classical pianist and professor born in Hamburg, Germany, into a highly musical family. She began piano lessons with her grandfather at the age of five and showed early promise under the guidance of teachers like Gisela Stumme. Over the years, Christiane has built a diverse international career, performing repertoire that ranges from Beethoven and Mahler to Wagner and Brahms, including notable performances of Mahler's 2nd Symphony arranged for two pianos and chamber choir, a work connected to her ancestor Hermann Behn. She has appeared in concerts and masterclasses across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, including performances at prestigious venues like Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and Bayreuth Festival. Beyond performance, Christiane is a dedicated educator, serving as a professor at Hamburg Conservatory since 2010, mentoring students from Germany and abroad, some of whom have gone on to perform in renowned concert halls.
Christiane is also notable for playing on two historic 1912 Steinway grand pianos originally owned by her great-grandfather, linking her closely with a rich family tradition of music. Her work frequently includes collaborations on transcriptions and arrangements of classical masterworks, such as Wagner’s *Tristan und Isolde* and Mahler symphonies, reflecting both her performance prowess and deep engagement with music history. She also actively supports young musicians through charitable foundations and youth music initiatives, contributing to the cultural life of Hamburg and beyond.
