Myron Michailidis is a highly acclaimed Greek conductor and pianist, celebrated for his dynamic and expressive performances across a wide range of musical genres. Born in 1968 in Heraklion, Crete, he studied piano in Athens before pursuing conducting at the Universität der Künste Berlin under the tutelage of Hans-Martin Rabenstein. He has also participated in masterclasses with renowned conductors like Miltiades Caridis and Simon Rattle. Michailidis holds a law degree from the University of Athens, demonstrating his diverse academic background. He has had notable roles as the Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera (2011-2017), where he gained international recognition and successfully managed the institution through a period of economic crisis. Additionally, he served as General Music Director of the Erfurt Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany from 2018 to 2022 and is currently the Artistic Director of the Heraklion Cultural and Conference Center.
Myron Michailidis' conducting repertoire spans over 250 symphonic works and 40 operas, with a focus on interpretations of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff, as well as operatic works by Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, and Wagner. He has collaborated with numerous esteemed musicians and has conducted significant productions at various prestigious venues. His recordings have received critical acclaim, including a notable EMI Classics release featuring Aldo Ciccolini. Michailidis has also been awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic in 2016.
