Rudolf Mauersberger

Rudolf Mauersberger (1889–1971) was a German composer and choral conductor, best known for his long tenure as the director of the Dresdner Kreuzchor, one of Germany's most prestigious boys' choirs. Leading the choir from 1930 until his death, Mauersberger played a crucial role in preserving and advancing choral music traditions, even during the difficult period of World War II and its aftermath. His compositions, many of which were inspired by sacred themes, reflect his deep connection to faith and his dedication to choral excellence. One of his most significant works, the *Dresdner Requiem*, was composed as a response to the destruction of Dresden in 1945. His influence on the choral world remains strong, and his music continues to be performed by choirs around the world.
