Sylvia

Sylvia, whose full name is Sylvia Jane Kirby, is an American country singer and songwriter renowned for her crossover hits during the early 1980s. Born on December 9, 1956, in Kokomo, Indiana, she moved to Nashville after high school to pursue a career in music. Beginning as a secretary at a record label, she quickly moved into a recording role after being discovered by a label exec.

Sylvia's sound is a blend of country's traditional twang and pop's melodious hooks, which helped her stand out in the music scene. She is probably best known for her hit single "Nobody," which topped the Billboard Country Singles chart and crossed over to the pop Top 15 in 1982. Her music career saw several other hits throughout the 1980s, and she earned the Academy of Country Music's award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1982.

Following a hiatus from recording to focus on songwriting and personal development, Sylvia re-emerged with refreshed artistic vitality. Her more recent works include "Second Bloom: The Hits Re-Imagined," which is a thoughtful reworking of her classic hits with a contemporary touch. She continues to exhibit her versatility with songs like "Nature Child: A Dreamer's Journey," an album for children, showcasing her ability to create music that resonates across generations. With her enduring talent and adaptability, Sylvia remains a cherished figure in country music, offering timeless narratives and melodies that continue to win the hearts of fans old and new.
