Egoexpress is a pioneering German house duo from Hamburg, made up of Mense Reents and Jimi Siebels (aka Jimi Orgl). Formed in 1995, they emerged from the city's punk and indie underground and brought a fresh, raw DIY spirit to electronic music. Their sound blends electro, house, techno, and pop with a distinctly rock-inflected edge, noted for its minimal, hypnotic beats and energetic live performances. They stood out by approaching house music with a playful naivety and a "non-musician" attitude typical of early '90s Hamburg bands, making them forerunners of rock-influenced electronic styles like electroclash.
Over a decade, Egoexpress developed from minimalist, Atari-inspired loops to complex psychedelic club tracks, gaining a local cult following especially around Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club. Though they took time to break beyond their hometown, their influence grew in the electronic scene, recognized as fearless innovators who valued rhythm and emotion over rigid genre boundaries. Besides their own albums and singles, they have also made a name as skilled remixers for acts such as Bob Sinclar, Die Sterne, and Miss Kittin. Their retrospective compilation "A Piece of the Action (1995-2005)" showcases their ten years of exploratory music-making.
