DJ Food

DJ Food is an electronic project originally started by Coldcut's Matt Black and Jonathan More, along with Patrick Carpenter, also known as PC. Formed in 1990 on the Ninja Tune independent record label, DJ Food was conceived as a moniker under which various artists could contribute to mix albums and projects with an emphasis on exploring the possibilities of sampling. The collective nature of the project meant that DJ Food's style was not tied down to any one artist, facilitating a diverse and experimental sound that drew on trip-hop, hip-hop, jazz, and future beats.

As the years progressed, DJ Food became the primary alias for Kevin Foakes, also known as Strictly Kev, who has continued to push the project's boundaries. Compelling releases like "Kaleidoscope" and "The Search Engine" reflect DJ Food's artful blend of atmospheric soundscapes and intricate rhythms. The body of work that includes "Magpies, Maps and Moons" and "The Shape Of Things That Hum" further showcases DJ Food's evolution, incorporating a rich tapestry of sonic textures. With a career spanning over three decades, DJ Food not only represents a historical tapestry of the UK's breakbeat and electronic scene but also a continually adaptive and innovative musical endeavor.
