Shervin Hajipour is an Iranian singer-songwriter and musician who gained international recognition in 2022 with his viral song "Baraye." The track, which went viral on social media, was composed using tweets from Iranians expressing their reasons for protesting in the wake of Mahsa Amini's death while in police custody. "Baraye" quickly became an unofficial anthem for the movement and sparked widespread emotional resonance both inside and outside of Iran. The song ultimately won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Song for Social Change in 2023.
Before his rise to global prominence, Hajipour had developed a following in Iran for his emotive vocals and heartfelt songwriting. Blending elements of pop and contemporary Persian music, he brings deeply personal and social themes into his work. Despite facing legal and governmental pressures for his music, Shervin remains a symbol of artistic courage and a voice for a generation seeking change.
