Cabezas de Cera, often abbreviated as CDC, is a progressive rock ensemble originating from Mexico City, Mexico. The band was formed in the late 1990s by brothers Francisco Sotelo and Mauricio Sotelo, along with Ramsés Luna. Their music is known for its eclectic and experimental nature, combining a variety of genres such as progressive rock, jazz, and world music, with a distinct avant-garde edge. They are recognized for using unconventional instruments—some of which are custom-made—and for their intricate and often improvisational compositions.
Over the years, Cabezas de Cera has garnered a cult following, particularly within the progressive rock community. Their self-titled debut album released in 2000 set the stage for their unique sound, while follow-up works like "...Un Segundo" and "MetalMúsica / Aleaciones Aleatorias" further solidified their status as innovators. Their live performances, such as those captured in "Live USA (En Vivo en el NEARFest 2009)" and "Contigo y en Directo: En Vivo en el Alicia," showcase the energy and musicianship that have made them stand out. "Hermandad" and "Música en Escala de Grises" continue to reflect their ability to evolve and push the boundaries of contemporary music, maintaining their importance in the Mexican and international progressive music scenes.
