Andrew McIntosh

Andrew McIntosh is a Grammy-nominated violinist, violist, composer, and baroque violinist based in Los Angeles. He teaches at the California Institute of the Arts and has a diverse musical career spanning solo, chamber, and early music engagements across the US and Europe. McIntosh's musical interests range from historical performance practice of the Baroque era to improvisation, microtonal tuning systems, and the 20th-century avant-garde. He holds degrees in violin performance, composition, and early music performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, California Institute of the Arts, and the University of Southern California.

McIntosh is known for his multifaceted compositions, which have been featured at major venues such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Green Umbrella series and Miller Theatre in New York. He is a founding member of the Formalist Quartet and has performed with period instrument ensembles like Bach Collegium San Diego and Musica Angelica. His compositions often explore unique soundscapes, incorporating various musical styles and techniques. Recent releases include "Little Jimmy," a work that reflects McIntosh's interest in blending natural field recordings with musical elements.
