Tanja Nisonen is a versatile French horn artist known for her multifaceted career as a performer, educator, and advocate for expanding the repertoire of horn music. She is a member of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and has served as Assistant Principal Horn since 2003. Nisonen is also a dedicated teacher, holding positions at the Turku Music Academy and the Brass Academy. Her artistic doctoral research at the Sibelius Academy focuses on women composers for the French horn, aiming to uncover and promote previously overlooked works. This passion for diverse repertoire has led her to record and perform music by lesser-known composers, including her upcoming solo album "Fanfare pour les Femmes," which highlights works by French women composers from the early 20th century.
As a performer, Tanja Nisonen has had the opportunity to collaborate with several orchestras and ensembles, both domestically and internationally. She has performed as a soloist with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and other city orchestras in Finland, and has appeared at chamber music festivals in countries like Canada, the UK, Sweden, Germany, Spain, and Norway. Her work extends beyond performance; she has been instrumental in organizing musical events, including serving as the artistic director for the Nordic French Horn Seminar in 2023. Nisonen's commitment to education and artistic innovation makes her a significant figure in the contemporary music scene.
